We would like to congratulate Ian Carter on his appointment as a District Court Judge.
Ian has had a long and illustrious career appearing as counsel in most of the current leading New Zealand cases in the higher courts, in the areas of immigration, refugee and human rights protection.
Admitted in 1981, Ian initially worked as a litigator in private practice in Auckland, and then Wellington, and acted for government parties for many years as a Senior Crown Counsel with Crown Law and as General Counsel within the intelligence community.
While we are very sorry to say goodbye to Ian, we wish him every success. We have no doubt that his integrity, intellect, calm demeanour and empathy will equip him well for his new role.
