MICHAEL CAMERON

Michael Cameron is a barrister specialising in legislation, public law, and administrative law.

With more than 20 years’ experience in law, policy, and legislative development, he is a member of the Parliamentary Counsel Office’s Legislation Services Panel and advises on legislative development, statutory interpretation, delegated legislation, judicial review, and public law issues.

Michael has particular expertise in the design, drafting, interpretation, implementation, and operation of legislation. He has experience with both primary and secondary legislation. He has worked on major legislative reform programmes and on complex statutory and administrative law issues.

Michael has held senior legal and policy roles in the public sector, working closely with Ministers, government agencies, and the Parliamentary Counsel Office. That experience gives him a practical understanding of how legislation is developed, how public powers are exercised, and how statutory schemes operate in practice.

Michael was awarded the New Zealand Law Society In-House Lawyer of the Year Award in 2015. He has also received the New Zealand Law Foundation International Research Fellowship and a Winston Churchill Memorial Trust Fellowship.
