Tanya Kennedy has over 20 years of experience in employment law.

She has worked in private practice (including with a national law firm in Scotland, and most recently for over 10 years in an award winning boutique employment law firm) and a range of in-house Legal Counsel roles (for an education union, public sector union, in local government in the UK, and for the Ministry of Education), and is familiar with advising clients in both the public and private sectors.

She has advised and represented clients in the full range of employment law issues and institutions, including mediation, litigation, and conducting or representing clients in relation to employment investigation processes.

Tanya has experience advising and representing various parties to an employment relationship – employers, employees and unions. This enables Tanya to look at employment issues from various angles, to provide strategic and practical advice.

Tanya seeks to help clients resolve matters in a constructive and positive manner at the lowest possible level, cost effectively.

However, if litigation is required, Tanya has regularly appeared in the Employment Relations Authority and Employment Court.

As part of her employment work for clients Tanya regularly advises on the Employment Relations Act, Holidays Act, Human Rights Act, Privacy Act, Official Information Act, Health and Safety at Work Act, and Wages Protection Act.

Tanya also has expertise in the education sector, acting for employers and employees, including in some cases advising and representing teachers on professional issues and processes.

She regularly presents on employment law topics for clients, and for organisations such as the Human Resources Institute of New Zealand.
